Trademarks are intellectual property, and just as any other asset, a trademark owner has the right to sell, license or transfer the trademark assignment deed. Such a transfer can be achieved either through trade mark assignment or licensing.

There are some variations in the ownership of registered brands when they are assigned. In contrast, when the trademark is licensed, the benefits remain with the buyer, but only a few qualified rights are transferred to the third party. The business goodwill may or may not be assigned in this assignment. Registered trademarks require an assignment to be recorded in the trademark register.
